Kallang/Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) is the underground road system that connects the East Coast Parkway Expressway (ECP) in the south to the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and the Tampines Expressway (TPE) in the north.  It is approximately 12 kilometres long consisting of about 8.5km of main tunnel and the rest is at-grade expressway. A Detailed Design Safety Review (DDSR) of KPE was required to identify potential safety problems for road users and other affected parties, and to ensure that measures to eliminate or reduce the problems were considered fully. Ali was the team leader for conducting the road safety review. Several key safety hazards were identified and the overall design was revised to include the reviewer’s recommendations. VISSIM models were developed to ensure there would be no congestions with other linked nodes.
